Aberdour Beach. Twenty minutes away.Spooky caves.
Severe weather warnings, I hear on the radio that lorries are blown over and the road bridges are either restricted or closed. We have blue skies, gentle breeze, and its 4 degrees. So a bit chilly out there, definitely a hibernating day, but beautiful to look out on!
Hundreds of geese going over the house to their feeding fields.
Our garden feeders are emptying rapidly with greenfinches, tree sparrows, blue and great tits, chaffinches, a robin, starlings, crows. Feeding them costs more than the t.v. licence, but they are far more interesting to watch than the rubbish on the 'box.'

Phoebe

Our Yellow Crowned Amazon. We have had Phoebe since she was three months old, some ten years ago. She likes to play in boxes. Here she is eating a nut.
Today is beautiful, sunny, blue skies and no wind. There was an overnight frost.
Green shoots everywhere as the spring bulbs start to grow. Snowdrops edge the drive and are showing in the spinney at the rear of the house.
Unfortunately I have to clean the guest rooms and catch up with ironing the bedding. Ho hum.

Snow and seeds

Buzzard waiting for a worm to appear. He is only young and hasnt quite got his act together! The wall is round our car park.

I spent over £30 on seeds, vegetable and flowers at our local garden centre, yesterday. Start planting them in February. We have snow forecast for the end of the week, so I hope I can make it to the greenhouse.

Weather in Aberdeenshire.

Sunrise.
It is not always cold! If you check the forecast you will see our temperature in this corner is often the same as in the Midlands and sometimes warmer. Most of the snow is on the hills where there are ski centres.

What we do have are beautiful skies. This is called the Land of the Big Sky.

The house.

Greenbrae is a 19th century farm house which was extended to the side and rear about twenty years ago. It has seven bedrooms, of which three are for paying guests.
The bedrooms are all ensuite with a bath and a shower.
Before we bought Greenbrae it was used as a care home for the elderly. Our loft is still full of zimmer frames, bed guards, etc. We are still trying to empty it!
We have done a lot of work on the house. Re-decorated every room - at least once. Re-floored the 'new' part - the old part still has the original wooden floor boards, and wooden shutters at the windows, and stripped pine doors. Every where else has laminated flooring.
Showers were fitted in all the bathrooms, and tiled. New fixtures and fittings also.
Its an ongoing process. As part of the VisitScotland Tourism Authority we are assessed annually so have to keep up with it whether we want to or not, or can afford it or not, to maintain our three star rating. Though I think we should be five star. But thats another story.

Welcome to my blog.

I am new to the 'game' of blogging. But thought people might be interested to read about bed and breakfast from the providers side!
We have been offering bed and breakfast in the wilds of Aberdeenshire, Scotland, for almost six years now.
As I write the weather is beautiful, sunny and no wind. On the business side we have no guests booked in which gives us a chance to catch up with maintenance, ironing, cleaning and gazing out of the window at the rolling countryside and the birds. My partner has gone off to view birds and taken the camera with him - so you will have to wait for illustrations!
